A friend and I are thinking about a trip to Rhode island late June or early July.
I know there is a lot to do in Newport but what about the rest of the state. We like nature - drives or walks - history %26amp; shopping at small craft and gift shops.
We also are looking for motels - we need a safe place (2 woman) and we would like to keep it at $100 or a little above - We want something that has a 24 desk - and is clean in a safe neighborhood.
Some one suggested staying in Providence and go to Newport during the day. Is there easy public transportation we could take?
Help needed w/things to do and motelsFor places to stay: pwcvb.com get names call for prices, and use trip advisor.
Transportation: $6.00/person will get you an all day pass for public transport all over state. you can take bus to Newport and then get around Newport with it. A little more expensive but great on a nice day is the ferry between Providence and Newport.- pass is not good on ferry
History, walks, shopping,Providence is great. check trip advisor attractions, go lists, google Providence walking tours. get visitor packet from pwcvb.com
favorites: park/ Prospect Terrace
unique shop/RISD Works where everything was designed by RISD faculty or alumni
walks/ Benefit St and Riverwalk
museums/RISD MUseum of Art and Culinary Archives
Help needed w/things to do and motelsFor a cute town to look around in try the village of Wickford. There are some great local shops and some good lunch places. Also RI has some of the best shops for hand made jewelry.(mostly silver) Different Drummer in Wickford has some good examples but there are shops in Providence and Newport that also have a good selection..
