Nightlife in Newport

We (a group of mixed 20something guys and girls) are thinking of coming down to Newport for the week of the 4th of July. However, I have been able to find little to no information on the nightlife in Newport.

Is this destination more for families and those who would just like to appreciate the beauty of the area? Or is there additional facets that I have not yet discovered?

Also, we are a group of 12-15. Any reccomendation on where to stay? We would prefer to rent a condo/townhouse/cottage, are there any particular area that would be reccomended?

Nightlife in Newport

I am a local and Newport does have a pretty big nightlife in the summer, lots of young people doing summer shares and coming in for weekends from NYC, Boston, etc. There are a good number of waterfront bars here so I%26#39;d think you wouldn%26#39;t be lacking in places to go out. Thames Street is pretty much where all the action is, with some on America%26#39;s Cup. For daytime, you can check out the beaches.

Newport ';Nightlife'; is DULL compared to NYC or Atlantic City . Last call is at 12:45 AM . There are only a handfew of places with live entertainment or a DJ . The Newport Jazz Club , and several others in that general area . The good news is they are geared towards the 20 something market . If you drive to Newport you will have to park in a lot ( most likely) and they charge you for a full day if you leave your car in the lot if you go eat after the clubs close ( about an extra $12 or so ?) . And there is only one late night spot to go , a Pizza Place . The clubs are very casual jeans ,shorts, flip flops ,sneakers .

Also the midweekweek scence is close to nonexistant !
