CastleHill Inn Beach Cottages

Want to stay at Castle Hill Inn July 16th to 17th. Has anyone ever stayed in the beach cottages or know anyone who has. Looking to take my sweetie to a nice romantic place on beach. Have checked there website and contacted them. All sounds good but need to hear from somebody who%26#39;s been there.

I haven%26#39;t stay there, but I can tell you it%26#39;s a class joint. We%26#39;ve had dinner there and it%26#39;s fantastic. It%26#39;s about 2 miles from dountown NPT.

Check the comments on Trip Advisor about Castle Hill, and the beach cottages. Most are very enthusiastic.

It%26#39;s the only place in Newport I know of where you can step off your deck onto sand, and walk 100 feet to the water.

As a very upscale inn, the decore, amenities and service are all as good as one can find anywhere else, in Newport, the US, or internationally.

And, yes, my husband and I have stayed in their beach cottages, and they were about as romantic as one can get.

Have a great time, and don%26#39;t miss dining at the inn; it is one of the best fine dining experiences we%26#39;ve ever had.

I have stayed there many times. There are ';Beach Houses'; and ';Beach Cottages.'; The Beach Houses and a bit larger both have private decks on the water. The cottages vary in size. I believe #23 is the largest and has a large private deck. The Beach Houses have Jacuzzi tubs, small kitchen area, King Bed and sitting area with coach and a small table and chairs. The Cottages are all brand new and bright. The Beach houses are a bit more expensive and you really have to ask about the beach cottages if you don%26#39;t want to be in one that is quite small. The location is wonderful and you will have a great experience no matter which you choose. Beach Cottage 23 (the larger of the beach cottages) does not have a Jacuzzi tub but it is very nice. There is a small kitchen area (sink, small fridge) a separate seating area, 2 flat screen TVs (one in living area, one in bedroom). The bedroom has a queen bed and there are French doors that open onto a large beck. The bathroom is very nice with a nice size shower. It is very romantic and if you choose, you do not have to leave the grounds, although Newport is fun to explore and has many nice restaurants to try. Well, have fun. I really don%26#39;t think you will be disappointed at Castlehill!

The restaurant at the Marriott had a terrific all-you-can-eat for Thanksgiving...is there any place that has it during the summer?

Not that I can think of, other than a Chinese Restaurant in Middletown.....or several brunch buffets on a Sunday.....

What sort of meal are you looking for? There are some that serve ';heartier'; portions than others.....although other than brunch, you%26#39;re not going to find ';all you can eat';....especially in the summer, unfortunately.

There is an all you can eat lobster place in Charlestown, RI...called the Nordic Lodge.....

Wow! Nordic looks like quite the place. What I%26#39;m looking for in Newport are oysters, clams, lobster. (Doesn%26#39;t everyone?) As I wrote, Fathoms has a great Thanksgiving Buffet. Every time I%26#39;m in Town I buy lobsters at the docks and steam them in my room but shucking a lot of clams and oysters is a project. I really would appreciate any help. Thanks!

Steaming lobsters in your room? All the local places will steam them for ya - for a buck!

I walk across the street, meet the boats when they come in and then have a feast chez moi. It%26#39;s cheaper and a lot more fun than going to a restaurant!

Campbell's Hall of Fame Tennis Championships July 9-15, 2007

Considering traveling solo to the tennis tournament to see pro%26#39;s play on grass. I%26#39;ll be walking or taking public transportation to get around. Is there a decent inexpensive motel or b%26amp;b near the tennis museum for a woman to stay alone there, yet still be near eateries and cultural things to do? Any advice would be appreciated. Tennis is my reason for flying in, though I%26#39;d love to do the cliff walk, if I can figure out how to get there!

You%26#39;ll have no problem getting around Newport so you really need not worry about staying near the Tennis Hall of Fame. The closest hotel to the HOF is the Viking, but at that time of year, the prices are going to be their highest. If you are not staying for the finals, (the weeekend) you might be able to find some mid-week deals.

Newport has a great Trolley bus system that will take you all over town, or you can walk most everywhere if you%26#39;re up for it. The Cliff Walk is not hard to locate, just find a map, or ask the hotel and they will give you a help. Also www.cliffwalk.com has more info as well.

They are a free service, and can help with finding a B%26amp;B or Inn that might suit your budget.....there are so many in town, that they are the best resource for knowing what%26#39;s around.

There are also some cheaper ';chain hotels'; in nearby Middletown, if you will have a car.....but you might end up spending your savings on parking in Newport.

Also, not sure if you%26#39;re committed to the Campbell%26#39;s Tournament.....but they are starting a NEW tournament this year with John McEnroe, Mats Wilander, and Jim Courier among others....that will be in August, and there might be some better deals late in the summer....unfortunately, the Hall of Fame inductions will have already happened.

Has anyone actually attended this tournament? What%26#39;s it like?

Considering the William Gyles Guesthouse hostel. Anyone stay here before? If I go, I%26#39;m assuming that the Hall of Fame induction and SF/Final showcases the tournament the best. Sampras is getting inducted and playing a exhibition match which sounds like a must-see event as long as I%26#39;m there, flying in from Portland, OR.

I%26#39;ve been to the event several times....it doesn%26#39;t attract the big names, but it%26#39;s a fun environment.

The early rounds there are several matches going on simultaneously, and not very exciting IMO. The weekend of the SF/Finals, it definitely gets better. The grounds are fun, and Newport itself has alot going on as well.

Sampras will be inducted on Saturday and play his exhibition on Sunday (It%26#39;s a separate admission than the Finals)

Don%26#39;t know about the Hostel...in fact, never really new it was there....it%26#39;s right in the thick of things, and a nice walk to the HOF.

Everything in Npt is walking distance, lots to see and do right in that location too. The Tennis Hall of Fame is lovely and very historic. There is a Hydranga B%26amp;B(or something like that) on Memorial Blvd half way between THF %26amp; Cliff Walk. But I%26#39;m sure it won%26#39;t be inexpensive.

And there is a van shuttle from the airport that will drop you off or pick you up whereever you want in Npt. Its 20.00 I think. Have fun.

Elmington House Bed and Breakfast

Has anyone been to the Elmington House Bed and Breakfast on Washington Street in Newport or has anyone heard of it? I%26#39;m thinking about staying there in one of the water view rooms, but I can%26#39;t seem to find any reviews about it or many pictures of it other than on its website.

Washington St. is in the Point Section of Npt very nice and quiet, but close to all the action. If I%26#39;m not mistaken its in a big victorian house but thats all I know. Probably very nice.

Honeymoon on Block Island

I%26#39;m planning on honeymooning on Block Island this August - does anyone have a good recommendation? We%26#39;re looking for something quiet with easy access to the ocean. We don%26#39;t mind biking to and from town - so even if it was a little off the beaten path, that%26#39;s ok.

Visiting Newport in early May and looking for suggestions on cheap, clean accommodation. Could be a motel or B%26amp;B - prefer to keep it under $80 if possible. I appreciate any recommendations!

Also, How long does it take generally to drive between Newport and Mystic, CT? Thank you!

About an hour between Mystic and Newport...

AS far as cheap places to stay.....what part of the week? Weekends will be higher than mid-week, but, other than Memorial Day weekend, you should be able to find deals because the season hasn;t really kicked in yet.

If you%26#39;re able, 3 and 4 stars on Hotwire will put you right downtown....also, try calling www.newportreservations.com they have alot of knowledge about the various B%26amp;B%26#39;s throughout town, and it%26#39;s a free service.

There is a Motel 6 that isn;t too bad, if you%26#39;re looking for really cheap lodging, or some chains out in Middletown (Holiday Inn Express, Hampton Inn, etc) On weekends, they are mostly full of wedding guests so it%26#39;s not too bad....for cheap accomodations.

We visited Newport while staying in Mystic as an easy day trip. I%26#39;m not sure how long you plan to spend in each place, but I would seriously consider staying outside Newport, especially if you are on a budget.

We stayed at the Days Inn in Mystic and found it quite nice. I believe we were there in 2001. There%26#39;s quite a bit in the Mystic area, such as the seaport, aquarium and the casinos (Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun), along with some other attractions. Even if you visited Newport for a couple of days, you could easily drive from Mystic both days.

There is a Motel 6 in Newport which is new and clean and the rooms in the back or nice and quiet. There are also some chain motels in Middletown, not far from Npt.

i stay at the Travelodge in Middletown...it%26#39;s on the main drag and easy to get in and out of. It is clean and the staff is very friendly AND affordable.

Just be aware that the Motel 6 in Newport is right across the street from the waste treatment plant and an adult video store. It%26#39;s not an unsafe area, but you should know about this. I%26#39;d look into the Travelodge or the Holiday Inn Express in Middletown.
