Atlantic Beach Casino Resort

Hi,

My husband and I are renting a unit (7) at this resort for the first week in October. We don%26#39;t vacation a lot, so we%26#39;re really excited. In fact, this will be the first time in 25 years!!! Can anyone tell us if this is a nice place? Is this resort on the ocean? Any information would be greatly appreciated...

Living in Westerly, I haven%26#39;t stayed here. Be aware that most of the accommodations at the beach are very, very casual. If I find out more soon about the property, I%26#39;ll post again. You will be on a beautiful beach and there are a number of restaurants right there. You also have the rest of the area to explore, too. Westerly itself is a great town, and you might want to take some time to go downtown, where we have a beautiful park, wonderful architecture, live theater, a great small cinema that shows interesting films and documentaries (Revival House), and many restaurants and shops. Watch Hill is interesting too, to see how the other half (richer) lives, and its shopping/dining area doesn%26#39;t entirely shut down after Labor Day. You%26#39;re not far from Mystic Connecticut, too, with its Seaport, downtown area, and Mystic Village (shopping area done in an old New England theme). Great time of year to go to Clydes Cider Mill north of the town and see the apples being pressed and buy fresh cider.

If you%26#39;re coming on the weekend of Oct 14 %26amp; 15, the Chorus of Westerly (200 voice classical/pops) has a sing-a-thon at its George Kent Performance Hall on Saturday morning. You can hear some great music sung for a small donation to the sing-a-thon. The Chorus has its own web site for more information.

Restaurants I like -- Up River Cafe, Billia%26#39;s, 84 High Street in downtown Westerly. In Mystic, the Mystic Market is a great place to go for sandwiches and interesting salads and side dishes.

Stores I like -- In Westerly, Hammen Home, Woodmansee%26#39;s, Polly %26amp; Woggs. In Mystic, Whatever Not? and many others.

Here%26#39;s my additional post, as promised. Once I did a little research, I realized I knew the property. It%26#39;s only a few years old, so should be in good shape. It%26#39;s right in the middle of the beach area, next to the town beach, with the state beach, Misquamicut, very close. You%26#39;ll be able to walk to restaurants in the area. One of the better restaurants at the beach is Maria%26#39;s Seaside Cafe. I sure hope the weather%26#39;s good for you, considering you haven%26#39;t taken a vacation in a long time. Take more of them; life%26#39;s too short!

Thank you so much for all the information you supplied. We love casual - that%26#39;s exactly what we are looking for! And I visited your Westerly website and enjoyed the webcams. When you mentioned a store names Woodmansee%26#39;s, I had to laugh because that was the name of one of the founders of our town and also, one of his decendents was Chief of Police for years here! So I have to stop in there and take a picture of the front of the store!

I can%26#39;t wait to see your beautiful town. We%26#39;re not Mohegan Sun people, if you know what I mean. We%26#39;re more the %26#39;watch the sunset on the ocean%26#39; and explore some antique shops.

We%26#39;re driving in next Saturday and I am so excited, I%26#39;m packing already. Any idea of the weather for next week???

I know the weekend%26#39;s supposed to be nice, weather-wise. The Columbus Day parade is Sunday, October 8, so there%26#39;ll be some traffic considerations downtown for that.

Woodmansee is an old name around here. In addition to the gift store downtown, the one I mentioned, in the next town over there%26#39;s a Woodmansee Insurance agency and a Woodmansee Oil Company, still run by the family.

the facility is nice. Hopefully the jacuzzi and pool will be fixed by the time you get there. Hopefully also, a very loud manager will not be around when you are there. it ruins the entire experience of being on the ocean-in other words-there is no calming effect. Otherwise, you should like it.

Now I love RI too!! It was wonderful and the Atlantic Beach Resort was fabulous. We had a two bedroom with the master one upstairs. Both our balconies were directly on the ocean. I mean, I could have spit in the water - not that I would :)

The weather was great and we were able to leave the door to our balcony open at night to hear the waves crashing on the shore. It was like a dream.

Westerly was great too. All the people were kind. The funniest part was when we needed to fill our gas tank. Here in NJ, it%26#39;s against the law to serve yourself. We were sitting in the car waiting and waiting for an attendant to come. Then we finally noticed people getting out and doing it themselves. We laughed so hard!

We got to see so many sites, including Mystic. But I would have been content to spend all 7 days at the unit. The saltwater pool and sauna were perfect and we used them alot. But the most amazing part was waking up and having coffee on our balcony directly over the ocean!

Can%26#39;t wait to go back next year.

I am so happy that you had a good time up here, and that you liked the facility. Now I can recommend it to others. Whew! Since you hadn%26#39;t had a vacation in 25 years, I have to admit I was a bit worried that your expectations and our casual little beach community wouldn%26#39;t match, but it sounds like you really enjoyed yourselves here. Heck, anyone that can find a good time at a gas station must be able to find joy anywhere.

I%26#39;ll have to remind myself, next time I happen to need to gas up in NJ, that I shouldn%26#39;t try to do it myself!
