Fairfield Resorts/Timeshare @ Long Wharf

I have been contacted for a ';free'; 3day/2 night stay at the Newport@Long Wharf hotel. All you have to do is attend a 2 hour information session on their time share product.

On the surface, it sounds like a great deal, but I have always stayed away fom this type of thing like the dentist (sorry doc). What are the sessions like and what is the story on these (and other) time shares?

Has anyone every done this?

Is the Newport @ Long Wharf as bad as the reviews?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Fairfield Resorts/Timeshare @ Long Wharf

Hi, if you go be warned! Last April. 06. my husband and I were staying in Newport for 2 days. It was a beautiful day and we slept in then went for a late morning walk for breakfast. We were stopped by a Fairfield Rep. who promised us a 2 night stay and a gift certificate to a restaurant in the area. All we had to do was to listen to a short speach and have some FUN! We questioned what we were being told and were reassured the sell AND the tour would be ONLY 60 to 90 minutes tops! After we finally agreed (because he threw in the certificate) we were told we had to give a money deposit ($10 or $20) that we would get back after the tour. Reluctantly we agreed and the found out we had to wait 2 hours for our appointment. At that point if we cancelled we would lose our money. 2 hours later we went across town (another surprize) waited 45 minutes to meet our salesman (who by the way was repulsive) he brought us to a big room and went on for 2 hours badgering us about buying into this vacation plan (not timeshare, as they put it) we went on a very speedy tour he was aggrivated that I wasn%26#39;t walking fast enough ( I was wearing a heart monitor) we then webt back to the big room for another hour of badgering at this point We had repeatedly asked for our money and gifts or let us speak to someone who could get them for us so we could leave and salvage some of our totally wasted day. He wouldn%26#39;t get any one and told us we wasted his time and took food out of his daughters mouth by not buying . I was completely beside myself, I thought my husband was going to knock him out. Finally we were taken by another man to another room and it started all over again. Just as panic was setting in another man walked over who we thought was going to save us only to put more pressure on us. My heart monitor went off with a very audible alarm they tried to ignore it, until my husband told them that we were not comimg back to give us our things or they would be calling an ambulance!! To make a long story short , we got our deposit back and our restaurant gift certificate and our so called packet for our 2 night stay in Newport. Needless to say we got out of there asap, it wasn%26#39;t until later when we read the PACKET info what a huge mistake we made. The STAY was NOT at the Long Wharf Hotel it was to be at the holiday inn or Travellodge, with blackout dates galore( nothing 7 days prior or after a holiday) it would take 30 days to process and you had to give 60 days notice for each of your dates picked ( if the first date wasn%26#39;t available then choose another 60 days later!!) AND when you sent in your voucher request you had to send them a $50.00 deposit which you could put in for a refund 60 days after you had your stay!! So for us since it was April we could kiss the summer away (and that would be the only time I wouldn%26#39;t mind staying away from town at one of those places) however we decided to fill out all the info that they wanted and send in the certificate with a date some time in the fall, we didn%26#39;t send the $50 and that wasn%26#39;t cool with them. About a month later we got a letter saying since we didn%26#39;t COMPLY with their directions (the$50) they would not allow us to partake in their offer!!!! So if you want to spend an entire day being badgered go for it. If not , BEWARNED

Thanks,

will stay away from this disaster.

I have investigated several offers like this and found them all to be bogus . The place the offer is made , or the ';name '; associated with the ofer doesn%26#39;t seem to change things . These are all groups of high pressure salesmen who work on the premise they can break down anybody . STAY AWAY from any of these presentations !

I totally agree with Allure45. Stay away from the presentations. And the hawkers trying to rope you in. After my Wife and I checked into the Long Wharf Resort, the front desk shifted us to the next desk where two salespeople tried to get us to commit to an appointment for their talk. I was patient at first but after about 45 seconds into the introductory spiel I interrupted and, in the most pleasant tone I could muster under the circumstances, I said, ';Thank you but we%26#39;re not interested.'; The guy backe doff immediately and snottily wished us a good vacation.

The next time we checked, knowing the routine, in we just bypassed the second desk. Watch out for the plethora of salespeople in front of the On-Shore Fairfield property on Thames Street!
