I%26#39;ll be visiting in early March and have been waiting it out for a good rate. They only seem to have gone up! Why do Providence hotels seem to cost more than some larger cities, especially in the winter?

What kind of rates are they quoting? Are you visiting mid week or week end?

Supply and demand. Many conventions early in March make rooms near the convention center scarce. Try the Radisson Providence Harbor. It%26#39;s about a mile and a half from city center and provides free shuttle. Look at accomodations list on pwcvb.com and make some phone calls. I%26#39; m sure you can find something to your liking
Did you try to get reservations in the suburbs, if you have a rental car, Seekonk is just outside of town, with a lot of motel chains, Ramada, Motel 6 and Hampton as well as others, these are not high quality, but the price would be right.
Thanks for your replies. That makes sense about the conventions. I was finally able to get a special rate through Starwood. Still more than I really wanted to spend, but the convenience should be worth it. (I won%26#39;t have a car.)
