Week in Newport

Hello,

I will be in Newport Oct. 29th-Nov. 2nd (Mon.-Fri.). I am looking for ideas of what to do over halloween and the rest of the week. Also an opinion of the American Cup Charters sunset tour if anyone knows of it. Thank you for any advise.

Week in Newport

I forgot one thing... I really want to see some rock beaches and light houses (thats the whole reason I choice RI to visit) but all the boat tours seem to be really expensive the American Cup one was the cheapest I could find.

PS I wont have a car. But I like walking : )

Week in Newport

I doubt the America%26#39;s Cup Charters will still be running at that time of year...there MIGHT be another boat or 2 offering Day cruises if the weather is nice, but not sunset cruises...and probably not mid-week.

Mansions, Cliff Walk, Shopping and Restaurants are all options for a Fall Day mid-week.

Posted my reply before I saw your additional post....

You can get a taste of the Rocky Coast along the Cliff Walk...especially the last portion.....www.cliffwalk.com.

Most of the Rocky areas of the Ocean are out on the 10 mile drive....which you couldn%26#39;t really walk to unless you were EXTREMELY hearty.....you could take a trolley to the End of Bellevue, and then start your walk from there....although it is still kind of a hike....perhaps a cab out to Brenton Point Park and bring a picnic lunch if the weather is nice, and call for a cab (or arrange a cab) back.

Americaa%26#39;s Cup Charters are usually more expensive...like $75 a person, unless you found a smaller outfit I don%26#39;t know about....again, a mid-week sailboat ride might be a little tough that time of year.

There is Rose Island Light House that is off of Newport (Only accessible by boat)

But again, I doubt there%26#39;d be a way to get to it without your own boat....but you can still look at it.

Also Castle Hill has a small lighthouse...you would be able to get to it if you got fropped off at Brenton Point Park.

There is a small lighthouse out on Goat Island by the Hyatt....which is the closest you%26#39;d get to Rose Hill Lighthouse without a boat as well...

Rent a car for the day (take and drive out to Conanicut Island/Jamestown and Beavertail Light house...you wont regret it. Just over the Newport Bridge.

Another option is take the Bus to Jamestown:

and walk the 2 miles down to Beavertail Park...great spot and great place to walk. Best rocky coast/lighthouse in RI, period. See this map for a general idea of the route.

Another interesting side trip (might turn it into a 6+ mile RT) would be the coast along Fort Wetherill (fun place to explore) to the east of Beavertail...

... for a loop along the southern part of Conanicut Island. And Jamestown by itself is a great sidetrip - cute little town (where they filmed the Jim Carey move, ';Me, Myself and Irene';, btw)
