Family Trip to RI with 3 small kids!

We will be going to RI sometime this Summer or Fall... probably just for a long weekend. We will be traveling with our 3 kids -- ages 6+mths by summer/fall time, 2 1/2 yo and a 5 1/2 yo. We are looking for ideas and things to do, places to go, some ';must sees';, etc while we are there.

We were thinking of def visiting the Roger Williams Zoo... but what else would be good to see and do with the kids while we are there? What are some good beaches to visit? Family Friendly places to eat? We will most likely be based in the Newport/Portsmouth area during our stay.

This will be our first trip there... and we wanna have a nice time as a family, but without spending a fortune. Which is a %26#39;cheaper%26#39; time to visit -- during the summer or early fall? Any ideas and/or suggestions anyone can provide would be great and very helpful in our planning! We%26#39;re open to ALL comments, opinions, suggestions, etc.

Thanks so much!

Family Trip to RI with 3 small kids!

Hello!

I have lived here in Southern RI all my life so let me see if I can help you out a bit. If you want to come visit us I would definitely recommend the fall. Prices are jacked up for the tourists that flock here in the summer especially in the area that you are staying in. The Newport area is nice. Be sure to check out the mansions on Belvue Ave and the Cliff Walk, which is a beautiful walk above the ocean. The zoo is a good place for the kids, but in the summer crowded due to day camps and kids being out of school. The beaches are beautiful here where I live. I recommend Sand Hill Cove (Roger Wheeler State Beach) where the current is minimal and the kids can have a good time. There is also Block Island which is a ferry ride away which is often called the Bermuda of the North. For info about the beaches check out the RI DEM website. There are tons of places to eat, just depends on your preference. Seafood, Chinese, American, etc. Let me know if you need more info and I will help the best I can
