Looking for Beach location to celebrate 35yr friendship

I%26#39;m looking for a beach location to celebrate my childhood friend just passing the licensure exam for counseling - and to celebrate 35 years of friendship, too! I%26#39;d like someplace not too busy, if possible, where we can hear the ocean from a condo/townhouse/hotelroom/B%26amp;B window. We%26#39;ll spend most of our time chatting and walking on the beach - maybe just a little time shopping. Airfare rates are best into Providence RI, so we%26#39;ll start from there with a rental car. Neither of us is at all familiar with New England.

Check out Narragansett. Small town with lots of friendly walking neighborhoods and good places to eat as well as the beach. The Town Beach is great, Scarborough, Salty Brine and Roger Williams are also in town but it is also within 15 min. of several other beaches. Another big plus is that it is 12 mi. from Newport, 6 mi. from Wickford (great village for shopping non-chain stores)and close enough to Mystic, Providence or the casinos that you can save over Newport lodging prices and still get to lots of activities. If you want to spend the day out on Block Island the ferry leaves from the harbor in Galailea (in Narragansett.)

Also check out Watch Hill. It%26#39;s right on the CT border and very non commercial. There%26#39;s no McDonald%26#39;s, etc in sight and it%26#39;s just about the prettiest beach in New England. The village is right out of the 50%26#39;s or 60%26#39;s.

Is this where I saw a carousel? I was driving along the coast somewhere along there.

Yes there is a historic carousel in Watch Hill. Also one in Providence near the zoo (Roger Williams Park.)
