Trains to Rhode Island

I%26#39;m visiting Boston from the Uk end of May for 6 days and thought may get out to Rhode Island for a day trip. Can you tell me if the trains are safe from Boston and is it worth taking this trip.

Thanks

Trains to Rhode Island

There is commuter rail from Boston to Providence, It leaves early and the morning and returns around supper time. Their are more frequent trips if you can get to nearby Attleboro, MA. Providence has great resturants, other than that and waterfire a day trip to providence may not be worth it if on a tight schedule. If you rent a car, that another story. If you hussle, you could sneak in a day trip to Block Island (leave the car in Narragansett) Newport is okay for a day trip, beaches in narragansett and westerly are recommended. Providence is a city, their is not much in Providence to do you can%26#39;t do in Boston. Tell you the truth their is not much to do in boston for 6 days. Impossible to get red sox tickets (worth it if you can) Resturants are more expensive than providence (not as good). I would try to work in the Cape and Rhode Island. A car is recommended except the Cape on weekends is impossible to drive and Boston every day but weekends is the same way.

Trains to Rhode Island

Trains are very safe, but may not get you where you want to go. The big attraction in Rhode Island is the beaches. They don%26#39;t call it ';The Ocean State'; for nothing. Miles and miles of coastline varying from open ocean with pounding surf to small harbors along the Narragansett Bay. To really see this per o the state, you would need a car.

Providence is a nice stop. The water fires are usually done on Saturday evenings, bonfires floating along the river, the river walkways are illuminated by the fires, and there is music performed. Providence is fun to walk around, and they do have some great restaurants, but you will find it not much different than Boston - just smaller.

I have to disagree with the previous poster that there is not enough to do in Boston for 6 days. I lived in Boston for eight years and never ran out of things to do!

Boston to Providence by train is an easy trip of about an hour. Providence is a beautiful and walkable city. From the train station you could walk to Benefit St. the ';mile of history';a preservation district of eighteenth and nineteenth century homes, visit the Museum of Art at RISD, walk along the riverwalk, visit the Roger Williams National Monument, stroll through the Brown University campus, eat at a wonderful restaurant, and return to the train station all in one very full day.
