Public transport from New York City to Newport

Just wanting to enquire whether there is any public transportation from NYC to Newport - we are planning a visit in May. If there is no public transport, another option is to hire a car from NYC - can anyone let me know how long the drive is (on a Sunday or a weekday?)

Thanks in advance.

Public transport from New York City to Newport

It is a 3 1/2 hour drive. You can take Am Track from Penn Station but you will need a car or car service once you are in Rhode Island to Newport. You can also take car service to Orient Point and then take a ferry to Rhode Island. Again, you will need car service from there.

Have fun.

Public transport from New York City to Newport

A car would be the easiest way to do this but there is a RIPTA public bus from Providence to Newport. it is not frequent or very convenient, but possible. So you could take the train to Providence and bus to Newport from there. You%26#39;d have to also get from the train station to the bus.

you can take the train to Kingston instead of Providence and catch a RIPTA bus to Newport at the station. Check out the bus at www.ripta.com There are also several rental car companies (Enterprise for one) that will meet you at the train station. Also, if you decide to drive from NYC you could consider taking the train to the suburbs in CT then renting a car. Sometimes this is cheaper than renting in the city.
