Water Fires: do kids enjoy the experience? and dining...

Hello all,

We are considering making the drive to Providence on June 24th to witness the water fires. We have two daughters, ages 10 and 6. Do you think it would interest them? I would love to take a gondolo ride to a restaurant nearby the Waterfires. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Water Fires: do kids enjoy the experience? and dining...

Last yr when my daughter was 3, she loved it.

If it%26#39;s the last Saturday of the month, the RISD museum hosts free for all Saturday, usually 11-3 or4. Lots of great activities for the kids and usually a related performance at their auditorium which is along the waterfire route. Around this time you can sit and watch them setting up (loading the wood by boat). There are lots of great restaurants around, such as Parkside Rotisserie, the Cheesecake Factory, Pakarang Thai, etc. It%26#39;s also much easier to park if you are there earlier in the day which is an added bonus. If planning on doing a gondola ride, you will want to book that in advance.

Let me know if I can be of any more help.

cafe nuovo and bella vista are two more restaurants that come to mind. I believe cafe nuovo has a kids menu but is a slightly upscale restaurant. I checked the 6/24 schedule for the RISD musuem, looks like marionettes are on tap for that day. Also, the Providence Place Mall is within walking distance of the waterfire.

just a little clarification. gondola rides are just that. a round trip ride from the dock near Cafe Nuovo along the rivers where waterfire occurs. You would walk to restaurant before or after ride. Short rides during daylight hours can sometimes be booked on the day of waterfire and are less expensive then rides during waterfire which tend to book up in advance.
