Newport in February

My family (which consists of me, my hubby, and 2 kids.. ages 5 and 2) will be in Newport RI for a weekend in February.. for a family event. However.. we would love some suggestions on things to do or see once we are in the area... things the kids would enjoy, etc. It%26#39;s been YEARS since I%26#39;ve been there.. so I%26#39;m not sure about what would be a good thing to do once we are there in the area. Any suggestions for anything the area or nearby areas?? And especially during this time of the year.. when the outdoors isn%26#39;t as accessible.

Also -- any suggestions on affordable lodging. Preferably a hotel with a heated indoor pool??

Any help would be appreciated!!

Thanks! ;o)

Newport in February

The Wellington is a time share type hotel that has sleeping quarters, living room and kitchen suitable for families. They have an indoor and outdoor pool as well. They are located on lower Thames.

Winter is a great time to visit Newport but since outdoor activity is limited it will be a little more challenging with children.

A ride out to the bird sanctuary is always nice and can be educational for children.

The outdoors is still accessible, it%26#39;s just cold! If we get a half decent day (today is sunny and 45 degrees for instance) then bundle those babies up and take them to the Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence. The grounds are beautiful, one of the nicest zoos you%26#39;ll see, and some of the exhibits are indoors.

Also Newport has a very nice public skating arena where you can rent skates.

Did you book, we are booked Pres weekend at Onshore resort on Thames center of everything, plan to swin in the indoor pool, public ic e rink and lots of eating and pb hopping taking 3kids 5-10years too and they are psyched we take short trips frequently and I think this place was kid friendly but adult fun too. We plan to give them their time in the pool and our time at meals when they are tired and hungry and coloring books and book puzzles are cool to occupy planning dinner at Brick Alley Pub casual and good from what i have heard.

Good Luck maybe we%26#39;ll see you there.

Roger Williams Park and Zoo is the place to see when in Rhode Island with kids, its awesome, with great animal exhibits and incredible grounds over 475 acres of beautiful trees and a spectacular rose garden. Fun rides on the lakes in paddle boats for all.

You don%26#39;t say which weekend in Feb you will be here but the Winter Festival will be running from 2/17 - 2/26 and you can find the list of activities at www.newportevents.com

Good Luck

The Viking Hotel has an indoor pool and can be quite reasonable out of season. It%26#39;s on Bellvue and it walking distance to town.
