Providence Local Transportation

Could anyone advise what the local bus service is like in Providence? We are staying at a B%26amp;B which has a bus stop right out front so we thought we would keep the car parked and take the local transportation into downtown Providence and other areas to sight see.

Providence isn%26#39;t really that difficult to navigate, at least compared to Boston. However, the local transportation (RIPTA) as far as I know is totally safe. I%26#39;ve never taken it personally, but my friend has let her teenage son (now 20) take it often with never a problem.

RIPTA is public very safe and good transportation. They usually run on time and cover a majority of the state. They stop at Kennedy Plaza in downtown Providence. From there you are a two to five minute walk to almost anything you want to see and visit. You will also find more than adequate parking downtown more so on the weekend for sure. RIPTA also runs the Providence to Newport Ferry which is definitely a must see in do when visiting the area. A very inexpensive and prety way to see Rhode Island and its glorious coastline. With over 400 miles of coast to explore it will keep you busy.
