Please suggest a convenenient an inexpensive accomodation for one night--something close to campus that will give us a good feel for the immediate area. Visiting Brown and RISD for the day.
Overnight Stay While Visiting BrownUOn www.pwcvb.com, highlight visitors and then accomodations. The closest places to stay are Cady House, and ccledbetter, old court is not far. These are all b%26amp;b%26#39;s. Hotels in the downtown area like the Westin, Courtyard, Biltmore are all about a 20 min. walk away. The Ramada on the harbor is about a 10 min. walk but they provide free shuttle service
Overnight Stay While Visiting BrownUI would recommend, as the last poster said, the biltmore or the westin in downtown. There are many restaurants and things to walk to around there, the redeveloped river front for one and the providence place mall also.
In addition, the public bus hub is right in the square there and you can get any number of buses that will go up college hill (which is very steep and most people wouldnt want to walk it, although it can be a good challenge) and drop you off on thayer street which is on the top of the hill and right in the middle of Brown%26#39;s campus - RISD is right next to brown on the way back down the hill. Time on the bus wouldnt be more than 10 minutes There is no need to drive, parking can be really annoying around that area while school is in session.
I used to take the rumford tunnel bus from kennedy plaza (right next to your hotels) on that route every day. I think they changed the name or the number of the bus so you should ask someone which bus to take.
It%26#39;s Radisson on the harbor. I erred by writing Ramada in first post.
There are some b%26amp;b%26#39;s near the campus and some hotels downtown a ten minute walk to the campus like Hotel Providence, The Westin,Coutyard Marriott. There are a few more inns around the area that are not mentioned above they are 2 to 3 miles from Brown U , The Charles Newhall House and The Edgewood Manor both are near Roger Williams Park and Zoo, just over the city line in Edgewood. Great area and wonderful accomodations.!! Close enough to Brown and RISD.
