Boston to Providence weekday traffic & airport info

We are planning a visit to Boston for the Clemson/BC football game in September. Looking at possibly flying into Providence instead of Boston to avoid some traffic but will probably stay the weekend in Boston and leave out on Monday. How would traffic likely be on a Monday morning Boston to Providence? Is PVD airport convenient? Would this be a good alternative to BOS? Thanks for any advice.

PVD is about 60 miles from Boston (the airport is actually in Warwick, south of Providence)

Traffic between Boston %26amp; Providence is heavy on any weekday morning and there is no preferred route. A morning commute can take as much as 2.0+ hours depending how one hits it.

BUT- there is commuter rail service between Boston - Providence ($12 RT) that takes just over an hour. RIPTA bus service is available from PVD to downtown ($1.25) and the MBTA transit system in Boston connects from the commuter line at South Station to anywhere you want to go in Boston ($1.50).

If a car is a necessity, a better alternative to PVD is MHT (Manchester, NH) only 50 mi from Boston, straighter roads through less dense population. Traffic toward Manchester is not as heavy on a morning commute as toward Providence. There is no commuter rail service to Manchester.

If you don%26#39;t need a car, I would definitely stay with BOS. The MBTA serves the airport and makes getting around metro Boston very hassle free.

Thanks for the information. We want to have a car to do some sightseeing on our own. We changed hotel plans for Sunday night so that we would be close to PVD on Monday morning and avoid the drive.
