Hi Zortan,

I can%26#39;t help you out w/the seafood restaurant, but we had dinner at 22 Bowens, a steak house, and it was really good. A little on the pricey side, but the food was worth it. If you check the Red Parrot thread, you%26#39;ll see there%26#39;s another recommendation for a steak house which the name escapes me right now, but it%26#39;s on that thread. The only thing is, I don%26#39;t think that one is right in Newport, and 22 Bowens is right in heart of it all down at the pier.

West Deck serves a great filet mignon among other great dishes. Asterix serves good steak as well. Black Pearl is good for lunch. Many restaurants in Newport open at 5PM. Scales and Shells is great for seafood (opens at 5).

Chopmist Charlies ( Reafood) in Jamestowns only a short water taxi ride from Bowens Wharf . The Quohog on Thames is good for casual seafood . First choice would be the Landings for lunch in the Thames St. Area .

Be warned that the downstairs at the Black Pearl is very small . Tables are tiny and close together . The seats are uncomfortable . It would be OK if it were considered a snack bar type place but the prices are the same as at the Landings .

The Coast Guard House in Naraganset has an excellent steak but that is a 20 min. drive .

Newport really isn%26#39;t a steak type of town . I once had a good porterhouse at a place called Rocco%26#39;s but I don%26#39;t know if it is still there .

I heard from a tour guide that you can get a decent steak at Brick Alley Pub ( very casual) .

I had a good steak at Red Parrot , and at Asterix .

We ate once at the Viking and were disappointed .

You might want to think about dining at the White Horse Tavern for a New England experience. It%26#39;s a very old colonial era building with a good restaurant -- not casual, though. They have a web site.

Addendum to my previous message -- White Horse does have a bistro (read more casual area).
