Newport

Staying in Newport Sept 22-24 with my fiance...ages 27 and 35. Staying at the Sarah Kendall House B%26amp;B. Any suggestions on things to do? We were considering the murder mystery train ride but it doesn%26#39;t look like it got good reviews on here. Any advice would be helpful.

If the Rum Runner is still operating it is worth the ride. Of course there are the mansions, The Breakers, Marble House and the The Elms seem to be the most popular. A ride out to the bird santuary is a nice trip. There are 300 acres of unspoiled beaches with great views. An afternoon cocktail at Castle Hill Inn is very nice. Weather permitting they have an outdoor grill and bar. A stroll down Themes to see all the shops is nice. If you like antiques you can visit the Antique Armory, also on Themes. My husband and I once bought an edison light bulb and a old victrola there. Have fun!

I highly suggest visiting one or two of the local vineyards for a wine tasting. My wife and I had never been to wine tasting and decided to give it a try. It was great. Here are two vineyards that I recommend:

The TASTE OF NEWPORT will be at Comerricial Pier of Thames St. It has live music , and stands with small platters of food for sale from many area restaurants . A great place to have lunch !

Newport Blues Cafe ( Thames St.) has a good band on Fri %26amp; Sat . nt. But get there early as last call is 12:45am ( All of RI ! ) .

You might want to cut through Narragansette for lunch or dinner at the Coast Guard Station Restaurant . For lunch you can sit outside on the water if it%26#39;s not too cold . Food is Excellent and prices are fair .
