September Honeymoon on Block Island

Hi, my best friend is getting married on Sept 16th and as a wedding gift I%26#39;d like to give him and his new bride three nights (Sept 17-20, Sunday-Tuesday) on Block Island as a brief honeymoon. Obviously romance and nice accomodations are a priority- can anyone recommend a place? I really don%26#39;t know BI- but I know they want to go somewhere peaceful and beautiful but not too far from SouthWestern CT so I thought BI might be the ticket.

Well Block Island is peaceful-a bit too peaceful for me in fact. I have found that unless you have a vehicle with you, which is an added expense it is a bit difficult to take advantage of all the island has to offer.In my opinion one of the romantic Bed and Breakfast options in Newport like the Ivy House could be better at that time of year. The huge crowds of summer are gone and there are so many more activities. Just walking the Cliff Walk is incredibly romantic in the early fall. There are also many more options for dining, boat tours, mansions to explore . There is a Newport Inn and Bed and Breakfast site that lists all of the options available on your dates.The B%26amp;B I mentioned has both fireplace and jacuzzi in many of the rooms. I would not recommend Newport as a peaceful destination earlier in the season but the dates you are talking about are fine.Good luck and happy planning.

Although Newport is lovely, I think Block Island definitely has it over Newport. It really depends on what your friends like to do. If they like relaxing, enjoying spectacular (and free) beaches, quaint scenes, nature walks, kayaking, horse back riding, fishing, and did I mention those beaches???; then they will love Block Island.

If they are looking for a bit more to do, want to watch movies, want a bit more nightlife options, want to visit mansions, etc. then Newport would be a better option.

Visit the chamber of commerce website for a full selection, but I love The 1661 Inn.

KETBI is right. It depends on what your friends like. If they want a quiet place with beaches, bicycling, hikes, etc., then B.I. is for them. Newport is better if they wants more action.

For a romantic palce, try the Manisses. It is a bit expensive but it is their honeymoon! Look at the B.I. website to see the rooms and the prices. Since it is AFTER Labor day, it should be fine.
