Waterfire - Park, etc.

What time should we arrive to avoid a huge traffic issue? Are there parking areas close to the Park, and are there areas to have a picnic?

Also, there is a concert this Saturday night - where is the music performed? Will it be loud enough to disturb conversation?

We are trying to figure out whether to picnic at the Park or dine out.

Thanks

I just found this and waterfire was last night. Sorry, but for future reference in the summer, try arriving in Providence for 5. Look for parking along South or North Main St which will later allow you easy access back to 95. Packing a picnic is a good idea and of course you are welcome to bring chairs. Food and drink are sold also.

Walking to Federal Hill or the mall is too much in the heat, I believe.

If you wanted to eat at Federal Hill, arrive early then drive downtown and look for a spot in the future. Angelo%26#39;s is very casual or get a pizza or two to go from Caserta and stake out your spot at the waterfire. Hope you enjoyed yourselves last night. My daughter enjoyed the ';fire dancer';.

Thanks for the reply. We ended up not going due to the heat. We definitely will try for later in the season, so thanks for your information!

It was brutal walking around yesterday. If it interests you, The RISD free for all Saturday is the last saturday of every month. It is from 11-4. Come in early, always good parking, walk around the museum and then settle someplace for dinner. I ended up parking right near the jazz concert, stopped to listen before leaving. There are a few picnic tables and benches on the side of Hemenway%26#39;s restaurant.

Lots of places selling drinks, snacks etc. Lots of restaurants within walking of the waterfire area, North Main, South Main and Pine streets.

There is free parking in the state offices lot on Smith Street. It%26#39;s a little walk to WaterFire but not bad for anyone of average health. You%26#39;ll find plenty of lots happy to charge you for parking, like behind Citizens Bank or at the Courtyard Marriott.

There%26#39;s generally a food court area over near RISDE Auditorium, and there are some picnic tables further down the river walk near the WWI Veterans Park. Other than that park, it would probably be too crowded to spread a picnic blanket anywhere though! You%26#39;ll have lots of food options from all the nearby restaurants and the vendors who work WaterFire.

The concerts are at the Sovereign Ballroom a block or two away, which is an outdoor are where they set up a dance floor or on Steeple Street for the smaller jazz events. For that one, they generally have chairs in the road in front of the restaurants there. The music isn%26#39;t so loud at either that it disturbs conversation, and there is also music being played at WaterFire.
