Block Island to and fro

I was wondering how feasible it is to go over to Block Island from Newport and enjoy it just for the day. Is one day enough to get a feel of the island?

Block Island to and fro

One day is enough to get the feel of Block Island . It is small with only two clusters of activity ( Old harbor and New Harbor ) . There are a couple of spots that have a bit of entertainment at evening . I suggest a walk from one harbor to the other . Have lunch in the old harbor . Maybe a snack later on at The Oar in New Harbor ( I suggest the cajun fish sandwhich and draft beer .

The ferry leaves from NEwport...it will be very uncrowded and slow. If you like a day on the water you will love it...if you are a Type A you will hate it and are better off driving to Point Judith (about 30 min) and taking the high speed ferry over (25 min) Same company runs both. I love the water so I enjoy the boat. Can get a bit choppy as its the smaller boat. Block Island is best covered by bike..and there are dozens of rental shops as soon as you get off the ferry....quickly get out of the congested little town and explore what will certainly remind one of the country of Ireland...rolling pastures(yes, hills galore!), sheep and cows with stunning ocean vista%26#39;s. If biking is a no...taxi%26#39;s offer fixed rates for tours of the island...and then you can poke around the town and eat or go to a place you enjoyed on the tour. If you like beaches, wear a suit underneath...the beach(2 mi. long) is a ten!! P%26#39;up a couple of sandwiches in town and hang out for an hour in the sand......the nice thing about PT Judith ferries are if you are enjoying yourselves you can stay a lot longer...more flexibility as there are a lot more ferry%26#39;s.

If its me...I%26#39;m making the trip...BI is a very special spot.
