Lobsterboats- where can we go see these boats?

My husband wants to see the lobster boats that they use to catch lobster and possibly go on board and see the lobster traps they use. He loves watching fishing shows on tv and this would make his day- does anyone know where in Rhode Island we can see the boats and maybe even get a tour? I wouldn%26#39;t mind going out of the Newport area since we have a car. Any help is appreciated. thanks

I%26#39;m not sure if there are places actually designed for you to check out the boat and whatnot, but as a kid we would go down to George%26#39;s in Narragansett. We%26#39;d order dinner and sit on the rocks watching the boats pull in or go by.

In Newport there are two lobster companies, Aquidneck Lobster Co. (larger) and Parascondola Co. The largest fleet of ';draggers'; is in Galilee, which is about 35 minutes west. I would call ALC, they are very accostomed to tourists there as they are in the heart of town, next to the Landing Restaurant. Have fun..

I have heard many people from this area say they buy lobsters right from the traps in the afternoons in galilee. We have also been on a whale watch from this area. They also offer fishing excursions at the same place.

I posted an inquiry a few weeks ago about where to buy lobster right off the boats. Responders were kind but were unable to answer the question. Well, I%26#39;m here in Newport now and I was able to find EXACTLY what I was looking for. It took about 5 minutes. I%26#39;ll answer your question...I hope that it%26#39;s not too late. State Pier 9 is at the end of Long Wharf. Just go right in to the area and make a bee-line for the docks on the left. Just about every day you will find someone selling lobster right off the boats and every day you%26#39;ll find all the traps that your husband could possible want to see. Most days you%26#39;ll find two boats that are owned by Rich. His son and friends will be there working, too. They are lovely people, eager to share their knowledge and experiences with you and the lobster prices are GREAT. I%26#39;m going to take some pix and post them here when I get home.
