?Private party purchase of a timeshare.

Thanks Bins2 for your comments. They were very helpful.

I%26#39;d like to hear from someone who purchased a timeshare through a private party, not through a resort. Were there any problems and how did you resolve them? We love Newport! Thanks in advance.

before you buy a timeshare check the prices at a broker . They buy timeshares people want to unload and ofer them at a steep discount . AND you can get the price down further .

I think it is great to buy from a private party. I think you might have a little confusion from another post you made about points vs. weeks. This resort was purchased by fairfield and so many units are still simply deeded weeks, which in the summer is just fine. Some owners have ';converted'; their weeks to points which can give them more flexibility regarding usage and trading to other resorts.

My guess is you are buying from an owner who did not convert to points. There is NOTHING wrong with this. If you are buying a fixed week and it works with your schedule you will enjoy it forever. If it is in July or August it will trade very well when you eventually use RCI. And if you want to rent it out you will get very good price for it.

DO NOT do anything until you have gone to this website:

You can ask away about anything. I wish I had known about this site before I bought from the developer in Newport!!!! I would have saved thousands yes you read that right!

I plan on selling mine next year and will probably get somewhere near $10,000 less than what I bought it for - if I%26#39;m lucky.
