Hi! The ';only game in town'; is the Lighthouse Inn, situated right across the street from the ferry dock. Recent word has it that it%26#39;s under new management and has undergone renovations. I hope that%26#39;s true, %26#39;cause while the accommodations were clean and spacious when i%26#39;ve stayed there before (most recently in %26#39;03), the place was showing its age and was pretty shabby in the common areas. If all you need is a comfortable bed and quiet room, it%26#39;s perfectly adequate. For eating, though, I%26#39;d recommend George%26#39;s or any of the other restaurants in the neighborhood; while I%26#39;m not wild about the ';clam cakes'; sold locally, they%26#39;re worth trying so you can say you%26#39;ve had some. The Lighthouse%26#39;s restaurant was mediocre (and I%26#39;m being kind.) But maybe there%26#39;s been a change for the better there too.

Otherwise, there are numerous motels and B %26amp; B%26#39;s in Narragansett (the town within which Pt Judith and Galilee lie.) But they%26#39;re farther from the boat, and - especially in the case of B %26amp; B%26#39;s - might not allow children.

Enjoy BI! And next time, consider leaving the wheels at home. The New London high-speed ferry is right next door to the Amtrak station, and takes about as long to get to BI as does the ';slow'; boat from Pt Judith.

My wife and I have visited Block Island in September for the last 9 years. Now we are so anxious to get on to the island that we try to get as early a ferry as possible and do not stay on the main land.

HOWEVER, if you wish to stay overnight to take an early ferry, I would recommend the Village Inn in Narragansett. This is (perhaps) a 5-minute or so drive to the ferry at Point Judith.

The Inn has an indoor swimming pool and after a long drive (perhaps 4 hours from New York City) it is a nice place to spend the evening.

There are other places that seem good too and I would recommend you check the net. By the way if you drive up in bad weather and the ferry is not running, you can also stay overnight up in Newport. I would say it is about a 20 minute drive to the ferry from Newport.

There are nice places to eat in the Narragansett area. You can even go over to the ferry dock where there are some good sea food restaurants.

Enjoy your trip!

You can check at www.southcountyri.com for lists of all the lodging in the county. The Lighthouse is right by the ferry but anything in Narragansett is going to be less than 7 miles from the boat. Even the places in South Kingstown (Wakefield area particularly) are just under a ten minute drive. Remember, when you look at anything on a RI map the scale is not what people in other states expect. What looks like a two hour trip on a Texas map might be all of five minutes on a RI map.

One other option is the Holiday Inn (in I think it must be North Kingstown) at the intersection of Rts 1 and 138 for an old reliable chain-type accommodation. That%26#39;s just north of Narragansett (Point Judith) and about a 15 minute drive from the ferry.

I%26#39;d give the Lighthouse Inn a chance. The new owners - this is their second season have been making some nice changes according to people I have spoken with. Although I have not been there yet.

They also have an indoor pool.

The restauarant is now run by the people who run Turtle Soup in Narragansett. I think it is more of a steak house though.

For eating Spain is wonderful, but a bit expensive compared to the other places. Amalfi%26#39;s is about the same .

Sorry, but i can%26#39;t recommend George%26#39;s, for seafood within walking distance I %26#39;d rather go to Champlain%26#39;s.. It is very casual, but if the weather is good you can sit out on the deck and watch the boats come and go on the causeway.

I agree with ForHil and recommend the Village Inn @ Narragansett. It is a very short drive to the ferry, the rooms are pacious, they pool is a nice relaxing feature and I don%26#39;t see why they wouldn%26#39;t welcome a two month old. They are a short walk from a beach and there are several restaurants in walking distance including one at the Inn -not always open. This is a much nicer place to stay than the Holiday Inn in Kingstown and closer to the ferry too. If you have to stay in Newport I recommnend the Viking - woderful place pop into the Chamber of Commerce office for great deals on lodging. including the Viking .Enjoy BI!!
