Stay at Hyatt or Viking (Newport Room)?

Wife and I will be driving to newport next week (never been before), and are trying to decide between the hyatt and the viking (newport rooms). The hyatt is $30 more a night. I like the idea of having an outdoor pool at the hyatt, but other than that, anything else I should be considering? any advice? I am not so concerned with the smaller rooms of the viking, we dont plan on spending that much time in them. Any advice would be appreciated...

Thanks

Aaron

Also, are either of these near/on a beach?

Thanks again

I think the viking is just a tad more convenient and more ';newporty';. the viking is more like a very large inn -- while the hyatt is the hyatt. however it has it all - pool, spa, bar, restuarants. I will let in on a local secret. the hyatt is located on goat island. and if you didn%26#39;t want to dinner and back in newport - on goat island is place called the marina grill. about 200 yards from the hotel. you can walk over there - have a drink -- and catch the water taxi. it%26#39;s two buck%26#39;s and takes you right to the center of downtown. it%26#39;s a two minute ride - but it%26#39;s so convenient. i use it all the time to avoid the twenty dollar parking downtown in the summer!

the hyatt is not near the beach -- the viking is about 1/2 to first beach.

for a wonderful beach - (not first beach) go out to ocean drive - and go to gooseberry beach - parking at this ';private'; beach is 20 bucks and worth it -- if you like a cove versus waves and tourists!

The room we stayed at the Viking was SMALL...smaller than any room I%26#39;ve stayed at in NYC. Just keep that in mind. Check the Hyatt website for internet specials as well as hotwire. Check betterbidding.com or biddingfortravel for info on hotwire.
