My husband and I will be moving to Providence from AZ. We will be visiting the city for the first time at the end of the month. Our trip must include some not-so-touristy stops, such as nice neighborhoods where we could pruchase a home (safe and good schools).Any suggestions on where to live? I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!!!
Visiting Providence and relocating
There are lovely places to live in Providence in area of the east side around Brown University. Best schools are in Barrington and East Greenwich communities from 15-25 minutes drive of Providence
Visiting Providence and relocating
Check out Edgewood in Cranston good schools great area nice historic homes. Providence east side is great to buy and live but you might pay 1 to 2 times more for the same house than in Edgewood.Private schools the way to go on the east side. Barrington and East Greenwich are good Bristol is pretty.
Thank you very much for your reply, I really appreciate your help!
Keeping in mind that Rhode Isalnd is a very small state, so the commuting distance are never too large, I would suggest you look further west of the city. Take a drive out Rte 6 and/or Rte 44. Areas like Chepachet, Foster, Gloucester still retain a rural charactersitic, but are growing rapidly. You may find real estate in the area more moderately priced.
Like northbound has said..Venture out of the limits a bit..The areas northbound metioned are great but you could also check out more of my area Warren,Barrington and Bristol.Although they%26#39;re a bit more expensive but nice areas non the less with great schooling..All are a very short commute into Providence itself.
Then there%26#39;s always another alternative. You could look into Seekonk,Rehobeth or even somerset or Swansea in the MA area which are right over the RI/MA line that are very very short commutes into Providence as well. They also offer some nice places to live.
I just found your post about relocating to providence and was considering doing the same.. How%26#39;d did the relocation go and do you have any advice?
Thank you :)
Hi Gemini78. We looked at several areas, including Seekonk, and West Cranston. We looked at houses (realtor), looked at shopping centers, restaurants, etc. The best advice I have for you is to contact a good realtor, and explain what you want, and what you are looking for. Our realtor ';toured'; neighborhoods, and showed us around, which was the best thing to decide on where to live. Be careful - we found out that realtors do not use lock boxes in RI, and it is a difficult task to set up appointments to see houses for sale. Make sure you contact a realtor weeks before touring the area (by the way, we strongly recommend avoiding Coldwell Banker Realtors - bad, bad experience, with 2 of their realtors!!!)! Good luck with relocation!
Did you check out eastern cranston in Edgewood ? Great Historic homes and good elementary schools(public) actually some of the best in the state. Its close to Narragansett bay and Roger Williams Park and Zoo and only 2.5 miles from downtown Providence. Convenient if you work in the downtown area.
Hi there- sorry to hear of your bad experience with CB%26#39;s Relocation. If you%26#39;re interested, I am a Cendant Certified Relocation Specialist with ERA The Masiello Group and I%26#39;d be happy to help out. I work in Maine but we have a very strong reputable relocation department (you can check www.masiello.com or ERA.com) to verify that. I have worked with many families both relocating in and out of my area and understand the stress that can involve.
A qualified realtor really is the best source for all your questions- just finding the right fit is important. cmckenna@masiello.com if you%26#39;d like to contact me directly.
good luck---
Welcome Akelle to RI!! I have lived here most of my life leaving only for a military relocation to Mississippi and Alaska. RI is a beautiful state, but very expensive to live in such as buying a home, car or any major purchase. Like previous posters have said Cranston does have a good school system, but it is a city like environment and has gotten extremely crowded over last several years, and that is why we moved to Scituate which has the #1 school system in RI. It is your typical quaint little New England town with a lovely village with an old church, library, post office, some antiques shops, a local market, bank and some specialty shops. Most homes are built around the Sciyuate reservoir, which is just beautiful any time of year. It is a lovelt community about 20 minutes northwest of Providence. Check it out. I think you will be pleased!!! Best of luck.
