Celebrating a romantic weekend in June

My husband and I want to spend the weekend in Narragansett? Can anyone recommend a romantic place to stay? Where should we have dinner? It doesn%26#39;t have to be quiet and romantic, but something nice. I%26#39;ve read a lot of bad review on Ocean Rose Inn....Need help.

Celebrating a romantic weekend in June

The Ocean Rose in is in a beautiful spot, directly across from the Narragansett Sea Wall. I have no idea what the rooms are like as we live here and I only get to see the local rooms when I have too much company for them to all stay at my house. What did you read about Ocean Rose that was bad? If you%26#39;re nervous and want to try someplace else, there%26#39;s The Village Inn, which has been completely renovated over the last couple of years. We stayed there on our wedding night and it was very nice but nothing fancy. We did love having the terrace overlooking the beach.

There are plenty of B %26amp; Bs but I really don%26#39;t know much about them. When we want something romantic and fancy, we drive over to the B %26amp; Bs in Newport.

Narragansett is a perfect place, if the weather goes your way. When it rains all weekend, that%26#39;s a good day to drive over to Newport and do a mansion tour. Or, go sit at George%26#39;s and have too much to drink and cheer everytime the Block Island ferry goes by.

On a sunny day, (I know it%26#39;s cheesy) we love taking the Southland Ferry tour. It%26#39;s a nice way to learn about the area and tour the salt pond. Then you can head back to your beach blanket and relax until dinner.

The restaurant right in front of the Ocean Rose, Turtle Soup, is pretty good but if you want to go fancy, head down Ocean Road to Spain. The food is incredible and it%26#39;s one of the few places you can get dressed up for w/o being overdressed.

Another good choice is Basil%26#39;s (you need reservations) which is the other way down Ocean Road, you take a left right after the Towers and it%26#39;s on the left between The Picnic Basket (great sandwich shop) and a surf shop that I can%26#39;t remember the name of.

In the Pier Marketplace is another very nice, and romantic restaurant called Woody%26#39;s. You%26#39;ll want reservations for that also.

Hopefully you didn%26#39;t end up anywhere near the Village Inn. Read the posts. It is a dump and quite poorly managed.

We have only ever stayed at the Blueberry Cove Inn and have nothing but good things to say about the rooms, and owners. Good luck!

Turtle Soup has great food and a nice atmosphere. It offers both inside and outside dining. The Coast Guard House is considered special by some, it sits on the water offering both inside and outside dining, although the deck is on the roof and may only offer more casual flair. On a sunny beach day, expect the outside deck to be crowded with thirsty sunbathers! Both restaurants are on Ocean Road in Narragansett by the water. A newer restaurant, PJ%26#39;s on Boon St. is a great casual dining experience. Read Narragansett Restaurants for more inclusive reviews.

Dinner at Spain is a special romantic treat. You just can%26#39;t pick something bad off their menu. The atmosphere is very nice with European style service but affordable prices (and huge portions.) Unfortunately they don%26#39;t take reservations so go early or plan on waiting. Caylillies in Wakefield has great food but not much atmosphere. Woodies is wonderful and has an extensive wine list.

There are several romantic B%26amp;Bs in Narragansett and nearby Wakefield. (And several less than romantic, child friendly places.)Look at the reviews and check out their web sites. Decide on what amenities you want for a special occasion and discuss your needs with the owners.

Have a great trip!
