We%26#39;re planning a long anniversary weekend in November. Would you recommend the Castle Hill Resort or the Francis Malbone B %26amp; B?
Thanks for your advice!
Castle Hill Inn or Francis Malbone?Castle Hill, no contest. Although Francis Malbone is in a convenient down town location the setting at Castle Hill is unsurpassed and the beach houses are well appionted, private and the ocean is right outside your door. They have new Beach Cottages that my husband and I stayed in over July 4th weekend but they vary in size and although they are new and well appointed the beach houses are larger. It is a fanfastic place to stay for a romantic weekend and the off season is a great time to visit.
Castle Hill Inn or Francis Malbone? No question here! CastleHill wins hands down. The question should be castle hill or The Chanler. The Chanler is a little more ';proper';. Since you are going in November, you can stay in teh Beach house pretty cheap. Go Midweek for the best deals. The I think the Chanler would be my choice in November. Nicer inside to the hotel. Real nice bar at the Chanler. Go on luxurylinkdotcom and you can get a great deal on midweek 2 night package with Dinner at spiced pear (dining room at chanler). Spiced pear in getting great reviews.
Good luck!
I stayed at Francis Malbone this past winter during a business trip with my husband and it was fantastic. I loved the quaintness of the house and the romantic rooms. I drove by Castle Hill and it was very nice as well, although I do beleive it is much more expensive. The breakfast at the Francis Malbone is to die for. The personal service was unlike anything you would get at a hotel. My husband and I got a move from downstairs and they made us popcorn and drinks and brought it up to our room. I would definatly go back any day... Actually, I%26#39;m going back this month but the Malbone is booked so I am trying the Ivy Lodge.
I stayed in the Chanler as well and I must say I found it disappointing compared to Castle Hill. They don%26#39;t have the service thing down yet and the location is far more private and beautiful at Castle Hill. Stayed at Francis Malbone as well. Very nice if you want to stay in town. You can walk to most restaurants and shops. Castle Hill, in my opinion, is still the best place to stay in Newport.
You will have two very different experiences at the two places. The F. Malbone is a B%26amp;B without a restaurant or lounge. Castle Hill Inn is a full service boutique hotel, with a wonderful dining room and a very relaxing lounge. Both serve outstanding breakfasts to room guests only, included in the room price. The Malbone is in-town, good for walking around the city, but it can get chilly in November; Castle Hill is on a large estate, with great walking trails, beach etc., and plenty of privacy. Thus, the choice depends on what you are seeking.
The Chanler is not yet worth the money it charges. It was expensively renovated about three years ago, but has never gotten its managment and service act together. I believe it has had a series of new managers about every six to twelve months, and the same goes for the chefs. Until they get it together, they aren%26#39;t in the same luxury category as the other two places (unless you believe luxury is strictly about expensive surroundings regardless of how poorly run)
