Newport in January, February or March?

My husband and I are looking for a romantic getaway and have read many great things about Newport, however we are thinking of going in either January, February or March. I was wondering if a lot of restaurants and/or things to do are closed at that time of year. Has anyone been there at that time, either during the week or on the weekends? Thanks

Newport in January, February or March?

January through March is about as off-season as you can get in Newport. The weather can be pretty bad, especially in January and February. But it%26#39;s New England, so you can have nice days (nice for New England in winter, that is) interspersed with not-so-nice.

So that being said, Newport does not close down in winter. You can still find things to do, you just have to plan. Dining and shopping should not be a problem. Some attractions will have more limited hours, so look into that before you go.

There are great B%26amp;Bs to stay in and wonderful restaurants to have a romantic dinner by the fireplace on a cold evening.

Check out gonewport.com, newportmansions.org, newportchamber.com, rimonthly.com and multiple RI visitor websites.

There are some great deals at some very romantic B%26amp;B%26#39;s (fireplaces in your room, jacuzzis, afternoon tea, etc....) that offer packages which include tickets to local attractions.

if you go to Newport, you MUST eat at the White Horse Tavern..it%26#39;s the oldest continuously running tavern in the country...opened in 1673. It%26#39;s a very nice restaurant now and the history boggles the mind.

I went in September and it was fab. I LOVE Newport...of course, the love of my life lives there so that makes it%26#39; special to me. :)

Have a great trip!

My husband and I enjoy Newport in the ';off season'; and January, February and March are as ';off season'; as you can get. Some restaurants have abbreviated hours but many are open. Many hotels have special rates. Castlehill is a great place to stay. They are in a wonderful location, very romantic and many rooms have fire places to take the chill out of the air. The best rooms are the beach houses.

I%26#39;ve been w/my husband Feb %26amp; March. It%26#39;s cold but there is almost never a wait to eat and plenty of parking. It snowed heavily one year which actually added to the romance. We were able to get warmer weather Mid march (we were able to walk the cliff walk) wouldn%26#39;t be able to do that comfortably in Jan/feb.
